I am putting the antenna in my attic but did not have time to complete the install.
I live in a heavily wooded area with 60 to 80 ft Pines and many 30 to 40 ft Oaks. I am 32 miles from the Houston Antenna farm and have never been successful with indoor antennas (they just were not good for the distance).
I took the antenna outside and set it on top of the corner of my 7ft wood fence about 2 feet from the wall of my house. I went back in the house and set up new Tivo. To my surprise it found 69 channels (all while sitting on a wood fence - 7ft high in heavy woods 2ft from a solid brick wall that is in direct path to the antennas).
Signal strength was 60% to 80% on most all the channels and I am not using a pre-amp with this antenna.
There are still two or three channels I want that are not coming in.
Very impressed with the reception I received.
Here is hoping that an attic install on 2 story house will bring the signal closer to 100%
--Update--
I now have antenna in attic. It puts antenna about 25 to 30 ft above ground. Reception went up to 80 to 90% on all channels but one. The one channel kept going from 80% to 20% and back constantly. I knew the signal comes from same antenna farm as the rest of the Houston Channels and power output about the same.
I went back to attic and realized that my placement had some AC duct just a little to the side of Antenna. I moved the antenna forward about 2ft and was able to get rid of what I suspect is multipath interference with the signal. The one station is now solid at 85%.
I am able to now receive all local stations in a densely wooded area. The Antenna is excellent and paired with a good pre-amp like the winegard ap-8700 I have solid signal to everything local.
